The Keeper
by Tripleguess
A stone wolf was keeper, green eyes open wide
His sharp ears pricked forward (his nose is his pride).
His tail was alert and his face appeared wise
Though weathered by years underneath desert skies.
He looked on the winters, on summers the same
An unceasing vigil kept until I came.
I came just to take it away to my land --
The treasure he'd guarded, and watched in the sand.
Yet I couldn't do it, though he was but stone
Take both prize and duty, and leave him alone.
So I brought him with me (stone wolf worn with time)
And set him to watch over riches now mine.
