Midnight Rainbow
by Tripleguess
I stumbled on his writings
A book grown old and frail
But clear upon its pages
Was yet a living tale.
In vivid shades of midnight
He painted, and despaired
To live he had no reason
To die, was unprepared.
And though the ancient pages
Reveal the dust of time
Though ages stand between us,
His story could be mine.
We've tasted each the bitter
Within our cup of years
And walked a midnight rainbow
That spans a sky of tears.
He too escaped his sorrow
And left that shadowland
Where hope is not permitted
And death is close at hand.
But we will long remember
The ancient one, and I
That bitter, midnight rainbow
Across a weeping sky.
